Just three rounds left and the tension is palpable in both the English Premier League and its virtual accompaniment, the PPP/CTN Fantasy League. With leaders Man United slipping up spectacularly for a 4-4 draw against Everton, and cross-town rivals Man City keeping up the pressure with a 2-0 win over Championship-bound Wolves, this weekend’s Manchester derby will be compulsive viewing for all football fans. Bolton, seemingly inspired by the saga of Fabrice Muamba, have put in stout performances of late, and their double header in gameweek 35 gave ample opportunity for major points hauls. Top of the list was their Bulgarian midfield rock Martin Petrov with a tally of 17 points spread over the two games. Petrov scored once and set up another during his outings, while his midpark colleague Chris Eagles did the same for 16 points and a place in the Dream team. Sharing MVP status with Petrov was Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye. The French international, however, grabbed all of his 17 points from just one match thanks to a brace and assist. To round off a sparkling midfield in the elite eleven, Man United’s Nani was back to his best with a goal and two assists for 15 points. Our weekly competition saw King Ta Express FC rush in to take the spoils with a total of 84 points. Managed by delivery man Sopheak Dean, the squad featured lucrative captaincy of Man United’s Wayne Rooney for 26 points, while Petrov and Nani were also included. Sopheak Dean’s side had remained completely unchanged since January 28 and, like a broken clock, it eventually came good with time. Sopheak picks up either an internet dongle or US$20 phone voucher in addition to a T-shirt from sponsors Cellcard. The upcoming bumper edition that is gameweek 36 encompasses the standard weekend set of fixtures, and four extra ties the following midweek. Obviously all eyes will be trained on the top of the table clash and potential title decider between the Manchester giants on Monday night, but spare a thought for players in Liverpool, Fulham, Stoke, Everton, Chelsea, Newcastle, Bolton and Tottenham, who are set to play two games each. Transfer deadline is the usual 5:30pm Cambodian time on Saturday afternoon.
